At UAG, students at every grade level receive academic counseling and college advisement from one of our four highly qualified counselors. The guidance team work together to ensure that students are exposed to the myriad of opportunities present at each level toward college, career and life goals.
DIRECTOR OF THE COLLEGE COUNSELING
Alex Rigney has been working as a high school counselor in NYC for 6 years and joined the UAG team in 2012, working with the school's second incoming cohort. In 2015 he took over as the Director of College Counseling, and has had the opportunity to send over 90% of his original UAG student cohort to college. He has great passion for working with traditionally underserved populations and empowering students to find their voices in a world cluttered by privilege and inequality. A Brooklyn native, Mr. Rigney attended Edward R. Murrow High School, earned a Bachelors in English at the University of Vermont (Go Catamounts!) and an MSed in School Counseling from CUNY Brooklyn College. He is a member of professional organizations such as NACAC, NYSACAC and CACNY. He has coached youth and high school baseball for 8 years and enjoys traveling and hiking really long distances.
